Abstract
The aim of our pilot study was to quantify changes in the macular capillary vessel density and FAZ area in patients with diabetic retinopathy complicated with macular oedema and any change following anti-VEGF using swept source Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Forty-two eyes with diabetic macular oedema (DME) and 42 healthy subjects were enrolled. The FAZ area, superficial (SVP) and deep vascular plexus (DVP)vessel density in foveal and parafoveal ETDRS quadrants were analyzed before and 6 months following injection. The FAZ area was significantly larger in DME group at baseline and 6 months. We observed, raised foveal vessel density (VD) in both plexuses and at DVP significant reduction of VD in all parafoveal quadrants. Post injection foveal VD reduced and parafoveal VD was almost stable except inferior quadrant. Very few studies quantified parafoveal VD, we conclude temporal parafoveal VD can be consistent OCTA biomarker for DR progression.
