Abstract

Purpose: To report surgical outcomes of concurrent intravitreal bevacizumab with trabeculectomy+Mitomycin -C in neovascular glaucoma (NVG).

Methods: Patients with NVG that underwent trabecuelctomy+MMC with (group1, n=8) or without concurrent intravitreal bevacizumab injections (group2, n=35) from Jan 2017- Nov 2021 and with 6months of follow-up after surgery, were included. The final IOP and visual outcomes were analysed between groups.

Results: The IOP at 6months (12±6.1mm Hg versus 17+9.9 mm Hg, p=0.05) and number of eyes (n=2 versus 13, p=0.02) requiring glaucoma medications was significantly lower in group1. Two eyes in group1 and 18 eyes in group 2 underwent additional retinal surgeries, with all eyes in group 1 having good IOP control at 6 months.

Conclusions: Concurrent bevacizumab injections along with modulated trabeculectomy helps achieve comparable surgical outcomes in eyes with NVG obviating the need for a wait after preoperative injections in specific cases.
