Abstract

Aim:To describe the surgical difficulty and technique in external dacryocytorhinostomy(DCR) and outcomes in difficult and complicated situations. Methods:This was a observational study conducted in ophthalmology department of a tertiary care hospital in Eastern India. The data was collected during the period from March 21 to February 22 of different cases of chronic dacryocystitis with canalicular block, mucocele, atonic sac, failed DCR, dacryocystitis after trauma and after radiation, was operated and followed-up. Results:Pre operative, intraoperative, immediate post operative and 6 months followup data are analyse at the end of 6 months follow-up, we observed complete anatomical and functional success. The mean operation time was 45 minutes +/- 10 minutes in DCR and 60 minutes +/- 15 minutes in DCR + bicanalicular tube(BCT) and 70 minutes +/- 10 minutes in DCR+BCT+ mitomycin C. Conclusion:DCR in difficult situations need patient and prompt and precise management for better results.
