Abstract
Aim: To compare the spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) findings of the optic disc and PPA of patients with a true papilledema and pseudopapilloedema
Methods: Analytical cross- sectional case control study of 20 patients with true papilloedema due to raised ICP, 20 patients with Pseudoedema either due to optic disc drusen(PD) or other causes(PWD) (10PD +10PWD) and 40 age matched controls taken.SD OCT performed in all subjects. Mean, Total and quadrant wise RNFL thickness measured and analysed in all 3 groups. Area under receiver operating curve was calculated for all parameters.
Results: The total and median RNFL thickness was highest in papilloedema group(p<0.05). ONHD visualised as hyper-reflective clumps in the RNFL. AROC was highest for nasal RNFL and most sensitive for differentiating between true and pseudoedema. Conclusion: SD-OCT can be used as a tool to differentiate between papilloedema and pseudopapilloedema
