Abstract
Pathological myopia is one of the leading cause of blindness in asian countries. The degenerative changes in pathological myopia involve the choriocapillaries, bruch’s membrane and retinal pigment epithelium.Macular degenerative changes can present rarely.
Here we present a case of 37 years old male with history of defective vision in both eyes since childhood and using spectacle for the same.On examination,BCVA in RE was 6/36(-12/-1.5@70) and in LE 6/36(-13/-1.00@120). Fundoscopy of RE showed retinal atrophic patch in macular area with exposure of choroidal vessel and LE showed symmetrical atrophic patch in macula.FFA and OCT was done .
This is a rare case reported in our institute describing the central macular atrophy in the middle aged male with high myopia. In our case, macular atrophy in both eyes were symmetrical and RPE and choroid were appeared to be normal.
So,fundus examination should be done at regular interval in pathological myopia to detect fundus changes earlier.
