Abstract
A serous macular detachment is characterized by accumulation of sub retinal fluid in the macular region causing separation between the RPE and underlying choroid.
Here we present a case of 29 years male presented with herpes zoster ophthalmicus of the LE.O/E- VA was 6/18 and he had multiple vesicular lesions with normal fundus. He was given IV acyclovir.During treatment,he c/o blurring vision and O/E there was worsening of VA and deposition of macular fluid.Acyclovir dose was increased to 15mg/kg from 10 mg/kg.VA improved in the next day and patient was discharged with VA of 6/36 with absence of macular fluidand he was not given oral acyclovir. However after 10 days the VA was 6/60 with return of macular fluid.OCT confirmed serous macular detachment.
There have been very few cases which correlates herpes zoster ophthalmicus with serous macular detachment. So,fundus examination is very essential for patients with herpes zoster to diagnose any macular detachment earlier.
