Abstract
Purpose: To assess the efficacy of Corneal Collagen Crosslinking with Photo Refractive Keratectomy (CXLPRK) in the management of mild keratoconus (KC). Methods: This prospective interventional study was done on 50 patients ,aged 18 – 30 years ,with mild KC, who had best corrected acuity of 6/9 or better. Those with preexisting corneal scar were excluded. CXL trans PRK was performed in a standard fashion. Uncorrected (UVA) and Best corrected visual acuity, keratometry values, higher order aberrations (HOA)(using Oculyser) were measured before and after the procedure and compared with appropriate statistical tests. Results: The average pre operative UVA (0.19±0.11) significantly improved to 1±0 (p <0.01). There was a significant reduction in corneal curvature from 44.10±2.074 to 40.26 (p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the HOA values. There were no adverse events. Conclusion: CXLPRK is effective in improving BCVA and corneal curvature in patients with KC.
