Abstract
OBJECTIVE –To assess the outcome of SLET in patients with limbal stem cell deficiency and to see the reversal of features of LSCD. MATERIALS AND METHODS –This was a prospective observational study on 21 eyes of 19 patients with limbal stem cell deficiency and neovascularization who underwent autologous and cadaveric SLET. OBSERVATION –Out of 19 patients in our study 6 had chemical burns, 2 thermal burn, 2 Steven Johnson syndrome, 8 recurrent pterygium and 1 contact lens overuse with neovascularization. At the mean follow-up period of 6 months, 14 of the 21 eyes maintained a successful outcome in terms of stable epithelium. In 63.6% of cases, BCVA improved to 5/60 or better. Significant improvement was seen in grade of corneal conjunctivalisation (3 to 0), vascularization (2 to 0) and opacification (2 to 1). CONCLUSION –SLET is single-stage and less expensive effective treatment for unilateral limbal stem cell deficiency.
