Abstract
Aim- To study demographics, clinical, microbiological, and treatment outcomes and define a novel management protocol for PK. Methods- Retrospective multifactorial analysis of microbiologically proven PK was performed at a tertiary eye center from Oct 2017 to Mar 2020. Results- 30 patients were analyzed. Mean age was 43.1±17.2 years. Visual acuity at baseline was 20/30 to PL+. most common clinical presentation was stromal infiltrate and hypopyon in 14 patients each. Seven patients improved with topical 0.2% Linezolid and 1% Azithromycin, 19 patients underwent TPK and 4 were lost to follow-up. Seven patients had graft reinfection, and 3 developed endophthalmitis. The final VA was 20/20- 20/200 in 6 patients, 20/240-20/1200 in 5 patients, HM to PL in 16 patients and no PL in 3. Conclusion- Prompt diagnosis, clinical awareness and specific treatment options are needed for PK. This novel diagnostic and treatment protocol will serve as a practical diagnostic guide for clinicians in future.
