Abstract
In this retrospective study of patients with limbal corneal tears, the age, gender , object causing injury, size of the laceration were recorded. A detailed slit lamp examination and B scan was done to know the posterior segment status. The injuries were classified as simple or complicated. Finally, post operative best-corrected visual acuity at last follow up was noted. 21 patients (21 eyes) having limbal tear reporting to the hospital were included in the study. Most of the injuries were caused by stick (20%), Glass(15%) and RTA (15%). Patients with limbal tear of less than 5 mm had significant good visual outcome. Those with scleral involvement had significantly poor visual outcomes compared to those with limbal involvement alone. Predictors of good visual outcome are good initial visual acuity, a limbal tear wound of less than 5 mm and simple lacerations. Age, gender, object causing trauma, presence of hyphema or intraocular foreign body did not affect the visual outcome.
