Abstract
Aim:
To document normative data of macular vascular density (VD) in superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP) and choriocapillaries (CC) and correlate with retinal and choroidal thickness.
Methods:
It was a multicentric hospital-based cross-sectional study in which 157 eyes of 91 healthy individuals aged 20-70 years underwent optical coherence tomography (OCT) 9 mm radial scan and OCT angiography 6 mm scan centred on fovea.
Results:
Mean central VD in SCP was 17.35, mean perifoveal VD in SCP was 47.39. Mean central VD in DCP was 14.75, perifoveal VD was 48.24. Mean central VD in CC was 52.27 and perifoveal VD was 53.56. We found a moderate positive correlation of the VD in SCP with retinal thickness and VD in DCP with thickness of ganglion cell layer (GCL)+ and GCL++ layers. However, there was weak positive correlation of VD in CC with choroidal thickness. There was only weak correlation of VD in different layers with age.
