Abstract
Aim: Evaluation of anatomical and functional outcomes of RRD surgery performed by a novice VR surgeon in the first year of post-surgical training
Methodology: A retrospective review of all RD surgeries performed by a single surgeon during 1 st year of post-fellowship training was analyzed. Anatomical success was defined as attached retina at end of follow-up. Pre-op vision, IOP, characteristics of RD, surgical time, and complications were analyzed.
Results: A total of 38 cases were included. The most causative lesion was an HST in the superotemporal quadrant. The average surgical time was 64.34±21.21 minutes.10 cases had intra-op complications and 19 cases had a post-op complications. Re-RD was seen in 3 cases out of which 2 underwent repeat procedures.
Conclusion: Out of all RD surgeries performed by the surgeon surgical success was achieved in 92% of cases(35/38). The most common post-op complication was secondary glaucoma.
