Abstract
Aim: To evaluate effect of anti-glaucoma medications on ocular surface using conjunctival impression cytology, AS-OCT, conjunctival and corneal staining.
Method: Prospective cohort study of 75 eyes of newly diagnosed and 77 eyes of POAG patient on anti-glaucoma medications. Follow up period was 1 year. At each visit schirmer’s test, TBUT, conjunctival and corneal staining, AS-OCT, impression cytology were done.
Result and Conclusion: Mean values of lissamine green & rose bengal staining in newly diagnosed POAG patients and patient on anti-glaucoma medications were 0.05± 0.0228 ,0.23± 0.424 and 0.59± 0.526, 0.77± 0.602 respectively (p-value < 0.05). Patients on anti-glaucoma medications for > 5 years showed pleomorphic changes and decreased goblet cell density (p-value < 0.05). Values of TMH, TMD, TMA on AS-OCT showed statistically significant changes in patients on anti-glaucoma medications. Patients on more than 3 drops showed statistically significant ocular surface changes.
