Abstract
The advent of micro invasive glaucoma surgery has widened the surgical armamentarium beyond the conventional trabeculectomy. The angle-based surgeries have gained popularity due to sparing of conjunctiva, lesser dependence on fibrosis, and good surgical outcomes. These include GATT, Kahook dual blade goniotomy, microhook ab interno goniectomy etc. In India, where the cost of the aforementioned surgeries is the main hindrance, BANG comes as a boon to help in achieve target IOP without medication with minimal cost and risk. It is technically a better option than other angle surgeries since Trabecular meshwork (TM) is excised only 60 degrees and it spares the TM-SC complex thereby preserving the active aqueous pump without the requirement of an implant. The excision of TM tissue strip prohibits the closure of the SC due to the gap between raw edges, unlike goniotomy. In this video, we aim to demonstrate the BANG surgical technique, the tips and tricks to achieve the optimal outcomes.
