Abstract

1st case-linear scleral dehiscence after a scleral buckling surgery due to the buckle eroding the sclera& entering the eye. Since this was a linear, clean cut, it was managed by end-to-end suturing of the scleral tear followed by Vitrectomy.2nd case-focal scleral melt post surgical endophthalmitis following vitrectomy.Owing to tissue loss in this case, a scleral patch graft was used to repair the defect.3rd case-inadvertent intra-operative globe rupture due to forceful PFCL injection in vitrectomy.The defect was small but not suturable. Hence Abgel- a commercially available absorbable Gelatin sponge was used to plug the defect

Results:All the 3 patients did well post operatively. The scleral defect remained closed by all methods & there was no leak/ hypotony in any of the cases.

Conclusion:scleral perforation can be managed in different ways depending on the cause and configuration of the defect. Proper pre op assessment &surgical planning will result in good post operative outcomes.
