Abstract
Contracted socket results from the shrinkage of orbital tissues, reduction in the orbital volume along with a decrease in the forniceal depth in anophthalmos. This eventually leads to inability to retain a prosthesis. The resulting suboptimal aesthetics is not only unpleasant cosmetically but can be damaging to the confidence and psyche of the patient. It is essential to recognize clinically, factors causing the contraction of socket so that management options can be tailor made for these patients for adequate surgical results and ultimately cosmesis. This video describes the clinical presentation and evaluation of contracted socket, practical aspects of applying the classification systems described for grading the contraction and options of management and outcome in these patients.
