Abstract
Patient History- Aphakia Secondary to “traumatic Cataract” Surgery, Surgical step where steps are modified are described- The straight prolene needle passed via the scleral bed like in the standard STD method, is docked in 26G needle in main wound, unlike in STD where it comes of Opposite scleral bed. It is passed twice via the eyelet of the SFIOL, docked in 26G needle under same scleral flap & tied. Same steps on other side. No diabetes or Hypertension. Age 59 y. Surgical time for STD was 37 min and 30 sec, whereas in the MOD 24 min 0 s. Thus surgical time with the MOD technique is shortened by average of 13.5 min compared to the STD steps by same surgeon. Post-op SFIOL well centered and stable. No significant difference in corneal edema and inflammatory reaction. Conclusion- the modification is very safe and effective and needs to be studied further in cases where sutured SFIOL is required reducing the surgical time and improving results significantly.
