Abstract
This study was designed to describe outcomes of stromal implantation of decellularised porcine collagen lenticule in Keratoconus(KC) not suitable for collagen Crosslinking(CXL).It was a prospective interventional study on KC eyes intolerant to contact lenses, pachymetry <400 microns &>350 microns.Femtosecond laser assisted stromal pockets were created & porcine collagen stromal lenticule implanted.Vision, topography, corneal biomechanics,in vivo confocal microscopy and corneal OCT was done pre-operatively and at 1week,1month,3months,6months,1 year.Implant was done in 5 patients at a depth from 110-150 microns. At 6 months,4 patients showed increase in pachymetry with improved corneal topography, biomechanics&vision.Confocal microscopy showed immune cells in the interface above & below lenticule till 6 months,no keratocyte population & no corneal nerves. The study concluded that these implants are effective method for KC eyes not suitable for CXL and might be an alternative to keratoplasty.
