Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate platelet parameters in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) patients and to explore the association between platelet parameters and POAG severity. Methods: A total of 200 patients and 215 control subjects were studied from November 2019 to July 2021. All patients underwent blood investigations for platelet parameters, including PLT, PDW, PCT and MPV. The POAG patients were further subdivided into 3 different groups based on the disease severity as follows: mild (MD ≤ 6.00 dB), moderate (6 < MD ≤ 12 Db), and severe (MD > 12 dB) POAG. Results: In the POAG group, the PDW (14.150 ± 2.75 fL) and MPV (11.478 ± 1.564 fL) values were significantly higher ( p < 0.001 for PDW and p=0.013 for MPV) than those of the control group (PDW 11.557 ± 1.735 fL, MPV 10.645 ± 1.24 fL). Conclusions. PDW and MPV values were significantly elevated in POAG patients, and PDW was positively associated with disease severity.
