Abstract
Purpose-To analyse a cluster of infectious scleritis who came to a tertiary care eye hospital.Methods-Retrospective analysis of case records of patients of culture proven scleritis who presented within 3 months from a similar geographic region.Results-5 eyes of 5 pts with mean age of 50.8±10.91 , M:F =3:2 ,4OS 1OD. They presented with redness pain , with a mean duration of 2.15±1.22months.4 presented as scleral abscess. On culture 3 grew nocardia, 1 atypical mycobacteria 1 aspergillus.4 patients with scleral abscess were drained. All cases were treated medically with antibiotics or antifungals.Conclusion- Comparing with our own precovid data we have not seen a similar trend of clustering of cases of scleral abscess from the same geographical region within a short period of time.Though the common organism was nocardia , other organisms were opportunistic infections suggesting a probable immunosuppression with no any common confounding factor except for the backdrop of covid.
