Abstract
Purpose:
To analyse the association of corneal haze before congenital cataract surgery to the development of secondary glaucoma
Material and Methods :During the period from December 2018 to December 2021 5 infants who had cataract surgery before 5 months of age had developed secondary glaucoma. .Retrospective analysis was done in these cases
Results: Out of 36 eyes who had cataract surgery,5(ie 13.8%) had developed secondary glaucoma who needed surgery. Retrospective analysis of these cases showed that 4 , ie 80% had preexisting corneal haze noted before cataract surgery. 4 eyes were microphthalmic and were left aphakic. During follow up central corneal thickness was found to be higher with a mean of 613 mm .Discussion: Central Corneal thickness is often seen to be higher in aphakic eyes, but whether they are prexisting or develop later is controversial. Conclusion:Corneal haze especially in a microphthalmic eye may have a predictive value of developing secondary glaucoma.
