Abstract
A 22-year-old man presented with painless vision loss in his left eye for 5 days and in his right eye for 1 month. Symptoms started 5 days after the patient received first dose of non-replicating viral vector-based vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 virus. The patient’s visual acuity was perception of light in right eye (RE) and perception of light with projection of rays in left eye (LE). On examination, patient’s RE had vitritis with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, whereas patient’s LE had 360-degree peripheral active retinitis, multiple holes at the edge of the retinitis, and total retinal detachment. Patients’ blood panel came negative for infections and the patient was also Mantoux negative. Patient underwent vitreoretinal (VR) surgery for LE and both eyes injection ganciclovir. Patient was also PCR negative for infections. Patient was given IV acivir injection post VR surgery, following which the patient improved to 20/80 in LE. This case illustrates BARN following COVID vaccination.
