Abstract
Aim: To observe the effects of oral eplerenone in acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC).
Methods: Patients with diagnosis of acute CSC (reduced vision less than 12 weeks) were included. Oral eplerenone 25mg twice daily given till complete resolution of subretinal fluid (SRF) and results were documented. Outcome measures included were changes in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central macular thickness (CMT) and resolution of SRF on optical coherence tomography at 1 and 3 months follow up.
Results: 25 eyes of 24 patients of acute CSC were included in the study. 16 patients were male and 8 were female. Mean age was 45.08 +/- 9.75 years. Mean duration of visual symptoms was 14.9 +/- 8.8 days. At 1 month, BCVA improved and CMT reduced in 23 eyes, 16 eyes showed complete resolution of SRF. At 3 months 24 eyes showed complete resolution of SRF. 1 eye did not respond even at 3months.
Conclusion: Oral eplerenone showed reduction in CMT, resolution of SRF with improvement in BCVA.
