Abstract
Purpose
Assess impact of Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) pandemic on medical students involved in COVID care regarding career choices
Method
Cross sectional questionnaire based study to assess psychological impact on final year students /interns of medical colleges involved in providing COVID care
Result
Online survey response rate for 12 item, validated questionnaire was 40.9% (n=676/1650). Majority (67.3%) wished to continue in chosen field, with 87% still wanted to pursue clinical specialty. Transformation of teaching to virtual mode caused stress to 66%. Around 50% acknowledged fear in acquiring COVID-19 infection /transmitting it to family members. Positive coping ability in 93% with 62 % reporting willingness to serve as front-line warrior for COVID-19 pandemic, if required.
Conclusion
Medical students were subjected to stress from disease and premature exposure to challenging clinical scenarios. Good coping ability, positive attitude to serve reflected high resilience.
