Abstract
We describe a new technique of performing lenticule dissection in SMILE surgery along with use of a novel ‘release sign’
Technique: After femtosecond laser application, posterior plane delineation is done in central 1mm area with anterior plane delineation being performed on both sides of cap side cut. Double stop sign is elicited at both edges of posterior plane delineation. During dissection of anterior plane, a novel ‘release sign’ was noted with sudden release of resistance when dissection moved from one area of anteriorly delineated plane across the undissected part to reach the second area of already delineated anterior plane of lenticule. This provided reconfirmation of dissection being in correct plane. Using this technique, in 60 eyes of 30 patients, successful lenticule dissection was done.
Conclusion: Double anterior, single posterior(DASP) delineation technique along with novel ‘release sign’ significantly reduces risk of complications related to lenticule misdissection.
