Abstract
Aim- Investigate role of dichoptic mobile video games in the treatment of amblyopic adults
Method- RCT included 28 patients, 18-40 yrs with unilateral amblyopia. prescribed spectacles and occlusion for 6 hrs 6 days of better eye. Subjects randomised in 2 grps 14 each. Grp A (ctrl), prescribed patching alone. Grp B (study), played dichoptic mobile game tetris in 2 hrs weekly sessions for 8 weeks. Follow-up assessments included BCVA for distance and near and stereoacuity at baseline 1 week 4 week 8week
Result- mean age of patients was 23.25 ± 5.70 yrs. distance BCVA in the amblyopic eye showed a significant improvement at 8 week in both grps: 0.77 ± 0.20 to 0.69 ± 0.22 LogMAReq in Grp A and 0.71 ± 0.19 to 0.58 ± 0.24 LogMAReq in Grp B. However there was no significant difference in improvement in BCVA(P= 0.35, 8 weeks), near BCVA stereoacuity between two grps
Conclusion-Video games supplemental to patching did not have benefits additional to patching alone in amblyopic adults
