Abstract
AIM: To present a rare case of Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) presenting with ocular manifestation as initial symptoms.MATERIAL & METHODS: A 24yrs Female first presented to us with chief complaints of sudden diminution of vision both eyes from last 3 months.Appropriate ocular workup including Visual fields, Fundus fluorescein angiography, OCT, VEP and systemic examination was also done.RESULTS: The fundus examination in both the eyes revealed Multiple cotton wool spots around the posterior pole and mid periphery.Arteries looked sclerosed and Disc looked pale in both the eyes.FFA both eyes showed total loss of capillaries except some capillaries at the peripapillary region.Ganzfeld Flash VEP both eyes showed Flat response. ANA was done and it was diagnosed as a case of SLE. CONCLUSION: Sudden visual loss with central retinal artery occlusion in a young patient should prompt the clinician to include SLE and other collagen diseases in the list of differential diagnosis.
