Abstract
Purpose: To compare initial presentation and outcome of Eales’ disease in North and North East India. Methods:Retrospective case analysis of 251 eyes of 165 patients who were diagnosed to have Eales’ disease in tertiary care centre. Out of 165 patients 100 presented in North East India and 65 patients in North India. According to clinical status patient was given medical,Laser ,surgical or combined treatment.Results:46% cases in North had bilateral involvement in comparison to 56% in North east. As a first line of treatment Oral steroids was given in 46 (46%), Laser in 8(8%) North east India while in north India oral steroids was given in 40 (61.5%), Laser in 8 (12.3%), surgery in 3 (4.6%) and combined in 14 cases (21.5%).Conclusion: Our results shows that most of the patients in north India respond to Oral steroids and Laser photocoagulation and are more commonly associated with Tuberculosis in comparison to North east India.
