Abstract
Aim:
To describe the efficacy & safety
of Ologen implant over Mitomycin C in trabeculectomy.
Method:
Various studies compared ologen implant with mitomycin c in trabeculectomy.
Efficacy measures selected were:
1. Post OP IOP reduction
2. Reduction in Glaucoma medications
3. Adverse effects
Results:
Benefits of ologen implant over MMC are:
1. Prevention of scar formation & hypotony.
2. Normal subconjunctival stroma formation.
3. Facilitates poor wound healing & physiological functional bleb formation.
4. It’s fully biodegradable.
5. Non teratogenic.
6. No prior preparation required & saves operation time.
Conclusion:
The use of ologen implant promises comparable IOP reduction after trabeculectomy with lower risk profile over anti-metabolites.
A study done in 2014 used this in the management of glaucoma in an unusual case of Axenfeld-Reiger syndrome.
