Abstract
Fungal keratitis is one of the major causes of visual impairment specially in agrarian countries like India. Delay in presentation and diagnosis, inappropriate use of topical steroids, limited choice of clinically approved antifungal drugs along with increasing resistance and virulence of the organism itself are factors contributing to poorer outcomes with fungal keratitis. Inaddition , if it worsens and results in endophthalmitis the management becomes more arduous. Surgical adjuncts like cryo-alcohol have been used in treating infective scleritis however role of cryotherapy in managing infective keratitis has not been reported . We herein present a case of fungal keratitis leading to endophthalmitis managed successfully using cryo-alcohol therapy to the cornea and thus avoiding the need for a therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty.
